Who This Is For

Fitness Without an Expiration Date

The AFT isn't just a military test. It measures functional strength that matters for everyone — in uniform or out.

🎖️

Active Duty Soldiers

Track your AFT scores, identify weak events, and prepare for your next record test. Know exactly where you stand before test day.

🏠

Veterans & Retirees

The AFT framework is one of the best fitness baselines available. Retirement doesn't mean your fitness standards have to drop — use this to stay mission-ready for life.

🚌

Pre-Basic Trainees

Shipping to basic training? Know what you're getting into before you get there. Use this calculator to benchmark your readiness and close the gaps.

JROTC Cadets

Understanding military fitness standards early gives you a major advantage. Whether you're planning to enlist or just building discipline, this is your baseline.

🎒

Ruck & Honor Event Prep

Bataan Memorial Death March, GoRuck, Star Course — events that demand deadlift strength, push-up endurance, and 2-mile-run aerobic base. The AFT measures exactly what you need.

💪

Fitness-Minded Civilians

You don't need to wear a uniform to use military fitness standards as your benchmark. The AFT events are among the best tests of functional, real-world strength available.

The Five Events

What They Test. Why They Matter.

Every AFT event was chosen because it measures something that matters in combat — and in life.

01
3-Rep Max Deadlift
Tests total-body posterior-chain strength — the foundation of lifting, carrying, and moving under load. You perform three max-effort repetitions using a hex bar.
In life: Lifting gear, picking up a fallen teammate, moving heavy objects without injury. The deadlift pattern is one of the most functional movements a human can train.
02
Hand-Release Push-Ups
Measures upper-body muscular endurance. Unlike standard push-ups, hands release from the ground at the bottom of each rep — eliminating momentum and ensuring full range of motion.
In life: Pushing, pressing, getting up off the ground. Upper body pressing endurance matters for anyone who works with their hands or needs to maintain strength through aging.
03
Sprint-Drag-Carry
A 250-meter course combining sprints, backward sled drags, lateral shuffles, kettlebell carries, and a final sprint. Tests anaerobic capacity, agility, and combat task simulation.
In life: The ability to move fast, change direction, and perform under physical stress. For veterans, it stays relevant to GoRuck events, obstacle courses, and emergency response scenarios.
04
Plank
A timed isometric hold measuring core stability and endurance. The same standard applies to all soldiers regardless of gender — it's a true baseline of core strength.
In life: Core stability underlies every movement — deadlifts, running, rucking, and injury prevention. The ability to hold a plank is one of the strongest predictors of functional fitness across age groups.
05
2-Mile Run
The Army's aerobic endurance standard. Run two miles as fast as possible. It's been part of Army fitness testing for decades and remains the best single indicator of cardiovascular health.
In life: Aerobic fitness is the single strongest predictor of longevity and quality of life across all age groups. Maintaining your 2-mile pace into retirement isn't optional — it's the mission.
